As part of the first actions of Peruvian Extension and Research Utilization (PERU-Hub), the first training on soils for the project team operating in Tarapoto was successfully carried out.
This first practical session took place at the Pucayacu Regional Development Institute (IRD Pucayacu) of the Universidad Nacional Agraria La Molina (UNALM). The first participants were technicians, engineers and PhDs from the Crop and Extension components, as well as representatives from the Tropical Crops Institute (ICT), an organization that is part of the sub-partner staff.
Purdue University and Oklahoma University, partner institutions of the PERU-Hub project, provided a Rapid Soil Health Analysis kit for this important on-site learning session.
On the other hand, surveys were conducted with the project’s
target audience, which are farmer cooperatives and organizations in San Martin.
The surveys will provide information on the needs of local producers in order
to strengthen their capacities and knowledge. About 180 producers, 80 companies
and 22 organizations are expected to be surveyed.
